MythBuster

Contrary to popular opinion, focusing on tests and data does not mean schools have to kill creativity.

It's Being Done

While some call No Child Left Behind’s goal of making sure all students meet state standards unrealistic and unachievable, some schools have quietly been getting the job done. Case in point: unassuming East Millsboro Elementary School, deep in Delaware’s chicken country.

The Achievement Alliance
The Achievement Alliance was founded to provide accurate,
non-partisan information about student achievement and
No Child Left Behind. It is a project of the following
organizations:
Business Roundtable
Citizens Commission on Civil Rights
Education Trust
National Center for Educational Accountability
National Council of La Raza

What's New

  • Connecticut’s NAACP calls the state’s lawsuit against No Child Left Behind not only a waste of time but a threat to civil rights protections.
  • New legislation will use Pell Grant increases to encourage greater high school rigor.
  • Many college graduates aren’t ready for the increased literacy demands of the 21st century.
  • The President requests less money for education in 2007.

Other Voices

The Washington Post weighs in on the Connecticut No Child Left Behind case; The Seattle Times says that No Child Left Behind has been a “dependable prod, pushing a moribund system into action;” and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis says that the most important thing a state can do to boost its economic development is to invest in high-quality early childhood education.
